At Recruit, Connect & Care, we recognise that behaviour is often meaningful and influenced by a person’s environment, experiences, and needs.
People use the behavioural skills available to them to achieve desired outcomes, often relying on responses that have been effective for them in the past. At times, the ways people attempt to meet those needs may be unsafe or of concern. For some individuals, this may include behaviours such as verbal or physical aggression, property damage, self-injury, socially disruptive or unsafe behaviours, absconding or wandering, withdrawal, or refusal. These behaviours can sometimes be linked to differences in communication, understanding, emotional regulation, or unmet needs.
Our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners work collaboratively with participants and the people in their lives to better understand the purpose or function of behaviour. It may be that a person’s behaviour is related to seeking attention, accessing a desired item or activity, avoiding or escaping a situation, or meeting a sensory need.
Once the underlying reasons for the behaviour are better understood, we can develop practical, person-centred strategies to reduce reliance on behaviours of concern and support the development of safer, more effective ways to communicate needs and achieve positive outcomes.
Our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners approach to behaviour support is grounded in evidence-based practice and guided by the values of being neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and person-centred.
At Recruit, Connect & Care, we focus on building practical, sustainable solutions that reduce the need for behaviours of concern while improving quality of life.
A key part of this process is assessing the person’s environment and making meaningful adjustments where needed. This may include changes to routines, supports, expectations, or physical surroundings to reduce triggers and create more supportive, predictable environments.
We also look closely at identifying and teaching replacement behaviours. These are safer, more appropriate ways for a person to achieve the same outcome that the behaviour of concern was meeting. For example, this may involve developing communication skills, emotional regulation strategies, or functional ways to request help, attention, or access to preferred activities.
In some situations, restrictive practices may be considered to ensure the immediate safety of the individual or those around them. However, we are committed to ensuring that any use of restrictive practices is:
Our primary focus is always on reducing and eliminating the need for restrictive practices through skill development, capacity building, and increased understanding.
By working collaboratively with participants, families, and support networks, we aim to empower individuals with the tools and supports they need to achieve positive, meaningful outcomes.
A primary focus of our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners is developing and fostering a strong, trusting relationship with the person receiving support.
We practice unconditional positive regard, meaning we approach every individual with respect, empathy, and without judgement. We recognise that each person’s experiences, needs, and behaviours are valid, and we are committed to understanding them within the context of their unique life story.
By creating a safe and supportive environment, we enable individuals to feel heard, valued, and understood. This foundation of trust is essential in supporting meaningful change, building confidence, and encouraging skill development.
Our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners remain consistent, compassionate, and person-centred in their approach, working alongside each individual at their own pace to achieve positive outcomes.
At Recruit, Connect & Care, we follow a structured, collaborative process to ensure supports are tailored, effective, and responsive to each individual’s needs.
Ongoing Support & Review
However, it doesn’t end there. Behaviour change is not always linear, and strategies may need to evolve over time. We remain available to review what is and isn’t working, make adjustments, and provide ongoing guidance.
We continue to work alongside the participant and their care team, maintaining open communication and collaboration to ensure supports remain relevant, effective, and person-centred.
At Recruit, Connect & Care, our mission is to enhance quality of life through meaningful connection, strong community, and supports you can trust.
We are committed to delivering reliable, consistent, and person-centred positive behaviour support that empowers individuals to build skills, strengthen relationships, and participate fully in their communities.
Our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners work collaboratively with participants, their families, and the key people in their lives to develop practical, effective strategies that create real and lasting change.
We focus on building capacity, increasing understanding, and providing supports that are not only evidence-based, but also sustainable in everyday life. Through consistency, communication, and a shared commitment to positive outcomes, we walk alongside each person on their journey.
